Speeding Through Time

$550.00

2007, 9 in x 16 in

Edition of 4

Solar Etching

The solar etching of a Hoatzin shows a member of the existing population of rainforest bird species that are progenitors of the Archeopteryx, the oldest known bird and considered transitional from dinosaur species. Speeding Through Time features an environmentally friendly and contemporary method of making an intaglio etching, drawn and painted on a thin sheet of clear plastic with pencil, charcoal and India ink washes. The positive image was placed face down on a light-sensitized plate of recycled vinyl, which was then exposed to sunlight, etching the image into the plate. Inking and printing the plate onto a sheet of archival cotton paper completed the process. The use of soy inks and absence of chemicals offers a non-toxic process.
